SVSS recently participated in the Luminous Lantern Parade in South Bank for the first time and were met with the most extraordinary warmth, goodwill and at times awe. Luminous is a multicultural event to celebrate all Brisbanites of multiple backgrounds and we felt privileged to be a part of something so rich and full of love and acceptance.
As promised, we created a singing, lantern extravaganza with evocative music composed by Dale Jones, supported by the Nightinguys and led by Kristen Brown’s community and school choirs. We delivered angelic and powerful music on the main stage and throughout our epic parade. Our guitar ensemble was supported by our budding rock star students Juan and Efran. Class 12 students Bella and Jessica were a crowd photo op favourite as Nymphs Circe and Calypso. Dave got his fair share of requests and got the crowd cheering as a formidable Poseidon. Everyone was dressed by costumes designed and crafted by Lucy and Sonia. Class 11 students Toby and Nishith carried their own Lanterns designed and facilitated by Vanessa Chadwick and acted out their memorable Odyssey characters. Us mere mortals looked very professional dressed in Bella’s Odyssey designed t-shirts.
Thank you to all who helped us show case our school in such a moving and impactful way, and who made us shine on the night.
